The best part is......

When your dog wakes you up to hunt, how can you say no? I never need the clock, Morgan somehow knows that when the gun is by the door and the boat is hooked up, it's on. Just to get out and bull jive with friends, to have a hot cup of coffee in the blind and a cold adult beverage when it's done, makes it what it is. Spending the off season with the dog, going to your favorite sporting goods store, building blinds, and enjoying it all year long is what does it. Soon I will have my son out there with me, and I will be the guy cooking the breakfast in the blind, and not shooting so much, and then that is when I feel I will truely know why I do it...... Great start to the season!

We dropped five birds opening morning and it gave me a chance to think about things. I have honed my skills over the years to know how to set out the decoys during different conditions, how to call, when to call, and how to shoot. All of these skills that I learned helped bag some ducks on opening morning. I also got to see my oldest son (who I taught) get his first duck. I got to see my young lab (who I trained) get on some birds. I got to watch my decoys that I carved "pull" birds that were headed to another hunters spread. It was truly a fantastic start to the season. I look forward to making my first duck boat in the off season and using it next year. "Take'em when they're all cupped up." dc
